Saturday 17/12/12

For the first time in 30 years last Saturday I ran in the Teviotdale Harriers 4.5 mile Menzies trophy club race. I started this journey in May this year when I started to run in the St Albans parkrun which i used my 27 parkruns as training plus a couple of runs during the week and cycling to work. In my park runs i have went down from my first one at 42:30 to 36:11 the other week, I worked out my time for the menzies was going to be around 56 min I ran 58. I go into 2017 wanting to improve ,my aim for my park run is to go sum 30min and to run a 10k next year and of course return to Hawick in the Scottish Borders and run my favorite race , the Menzies 2017. As a little footnote , my mentor Mr Alan Samuel was in the race and after the race we had a few beers together I said we were the only 2 lads who raced on the 80’s to be in this years race. My second running career is now under way at 57 in January i am looking forward to racing the classic running distances of 5 and 10 Km , however no further as that I have the T-Shirts for the Half and Full marathon and thank you the Parkrun activity for getting me going.
